Gambling laws in Illinois have been brought up to date since Governor Pat Quinn signed a law that will enable establishments with liquor licenses to have video gambling machines on their premises.
Not everyone is happy with this new law and it has resulted in quite a few towns and cities putting a stop to the video gambling machines from gaining access to their area. These areas have been granted a grace period by the law to enable them to ban the machines but after the expiration of the grace period establishments will be allowed to apply for the rights to operate the machines and the current video gambling options will change over to the new form. These machines are at present operated by bars but they are not allowed to pay out winnings in cash, whereas the new machines will offer cash winnings.
The new law will permit any establishment with a liquor license to operate up to five machines that will be locked into a central computer network set up by the state allowing the state to oversee the operation of the machines.
Owners of establishments are quite prepared to abide to any laws that the state will enact and are eagerly waiting for the state to get their computer network set up.
