Poker’s Day in Court

Date: 05/13/2008

On May 13, 2008, the well-known poker player Lee Rousso will appear in court to take the side of legal online gambling. He will be backed by PPA supporters and gaming enthusiasts all over the world. Washington state's law bans online gambling and online poker, in addition to the federal Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Governor Chris Gregorie signed this legislation into law; which makes online gambling no less than a felony.

This piece of legislation affects more than 800 000 Washington state citizens, including poker player Lee Rousso. Rousso will act as the Washington State representative of The Poker Players Alliance's (PPA), and will appear in court today to argue for the legalization of online poker. While he will be appearing in the King Country Superior Court, Poker Players Alliance members will be waiting outside the justice halls and holding a rally in his support. Lee Rousso is a Seattle attorney who is running for Governor of the Washington state.

Poker stars Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein will also join the rally. In 2006, Bloch defeated Phil Laak heads up to win the Pro-Am Poker Equalizer. He ended up taking home the grand prize of 500,000 dollars. The Pro-Am tournament was broadcasted on ESPN in early 2007. As of this year, his live tournament winnings cumulate to over $3,200,000.

Poker player Barry Greenstein once donated the bulk of his tournament winnings to charities, and he is sometimes referred to as the Robin Hood of poker. As of last year, his total live tournament winnings exceed $5,700,000.
