Annie Duke is one of the most successful female all-American player pokers of this time. Born as Annie Lederer, she hailed from Concord, a city in New Hampshire. She was one of the daughters of Richard Lederer, who is a linguist, a writer, and also a poker lover. Poker seems to run in Duke's family as she has a brother who was a professional poker player before her. His brother plays by the name Howard Lederer and he's the one who had guided her into playing professional poker right after she has left graduate school. Her other sibling, Katy Lederer seems to be the only one who have inherited their father's writing abilities. However, even Katy had written a book about poker, which she entitled 'Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers'.
Annie Duke got her name from former husband Ben Duke. He was her college flame, whom she eventually married. They divorced sometime in 2004. She had not changed her name since then. Much of it is because she had garnered good reputation in the poker world as Annie Duke. Right now, she lives with boyfriend Joe Reitman, a movie actor and producer.
In 2004, Annie bagged the $2 million prize money at the inaugural of the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions. Currently, she is holding a single World Series of Poker bracelet. Her winnings to date have now amounted to more than $3.4 million.
Annie Duke doesn't play much in the women's poker tournament these days. She believes that poker is one game where both men and women can compete on equal footing. She thinks that women's tournaments are unnecessary and would rather take on both guys and gals when playing.
Like most popular poker players, Annie Duke has published a book. Her book is an autobiography that narrates her experiences, hardships, and quests to be one of the greatest professional poker players of today.
