Chris Ferguson Christopher Ferguson was born in Los Angeles on 11 April 1963. Due to his cultivation of an eccentric appearance with a beard and long hair, he earned the nickname of “Jesus”. Ferguson started playing poker before he turned 10 and is now an expert at the game. In college, he perfected his skills on IRC, by playing poker for money in various online chat rooms. In the year 1994, Ferguson took to playing in tournaments in California and managed to qualify for the WSOP. The year 1995 saw Ferguson win his first World Series of Poker, where he beat T.J. Cloutier at the main event of WSOP 2000 and won the $ 1.5 million prize.

Ferguson then went on to attend UCLA where he earned a PhD in computer science. As a player, Ferguson is relatively quiet and serious. He tried to conceal the fact that he was an academic by taking on a sort of trademark look of wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.

In 2005, Ferguson finished runner-up to Phil Hellmuth in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship and went on to the final again the next year but came in second to Ted Forrest.

Ferguson has won 5 poker bracelets so far. Also, he has two wins in the World Series of Poker events to his name. Other than Peter Feldman, Ferguson is the only man to have accomplished to have accomplished such a feat!

In 2005, Ferguson made a visit to London where he took part in the inaugural British Poker Open, a live tournament that became UK’s largest live televised poker event in history. He again returned to London in 2006 for the European Poker Masters and the Million Dollar Cash game, Europe’s biggest ever high-stakes poker game with a $100,000 buy in.

As of 2007, his total live tournament winnings exceed $5,900,000.
