Clonie Gowen

Clonie Gowen was born, Cycalona Gowen, in 1971 in Kiowa, Oklahoma. She was born during a large storm, hence here unusual name. The storm would later be significant in her poker life, as she became a storming poker legend. Clonie was the sixth child in a large family who remained in Kiowa, Oklahoma where she won Miss Teen McAlister Oklahoma aged 15. Shortly afterwards, Clonie and her family moved to Texas where she became an accomplished athlete playing varsity basketball as well as competitive high-jump.

Clonie Gowen became interested in poker whilst she was living in Dallas Texas, at which point she would travel to Shreveport, Louisiana at weekends to play poker. These trips turned out to be lucrative for her, and from this point on was able to support herself through playing poker. Clonie Gowen became more of a household name when she hit the poker radar by finishing in the top 10 of the World Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic in 2002 and then winning the World Poker Tour Ladies’ Night tournament in 2003 where she defeated Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman.

Since then, Clonie Gowen with her husband has had two children Seth and Morgan, and has continued to find the time to dedicate to legendary poker playing and the advancement of the sport. She has been a pundit for the Ultimate Poker Challenge, The Gaming Club World Poker Championship, and the 888.com Women’s Poker UK Open. She also writes a regular column for ‘All In’ magazine.

Clonie Gowen’s amazing tournament placements in the past few years include 6th in the WPT Ladies Night II, 2006; 4th in the Fourth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic, 2005; and 3rd in the Full Tilt Poker Tournament, 2005.

Currently Clonie Gowen is a member of the Full Tilt Poker team, an online poker room set up specifically so that regular poker players have the opportunity to test their skill against some of the biggest names in the sport. She is now also involved in a poker school where she teaches lucky students the basics of the game as well as how to make the most of tournaments.

As of 2007, her live tournament winnings amount to over $300,000.
