Omaha Hi/Lo: Rules of the game

Basic rules of the Omaha Hi/Lo poker game

Omaha Hi/Lo is a poker game that uses five community cards to help make a poker hand. If you have ever played Omaha Hi, then this game is the same, but there is one main difference. The pot (at the end of the game) is split between the best hand and the worse hand. This is a pretty simple game to play, but it does require patience.

To start this game you have to select the dealer. From there, the person to the right of the dealer will be your small blind and the person to his left the big blind. The position of the dealer will rotate clockwise during the game, so at some point everyone will be the dealer. If you do not know, a blind is the money that gets put into the hand before the match starts. The small blind is, of course, half of the big blind.

From this point, you deal four cards to each player face down. You always start with the player with the small blind. You deal one card at a time, clockwise, around the table. Then the person to the left of the big blind has a chance to raise the bet or just pay the big blind. It goes all the way around, back to the small blind, who then has to pay the remaining amount to cover the difference in the pot. From here it works just like other poker. You deal your three flop cards, bet, then you place the fourth card (or the turn card), then the fifth card, which is called the river card. Then the highest hand wins, and splits with the lowest hand.
